Fifteen years ago, Esclat Gospel Singers did its very first performance in the old playground of Kursaal’s theatre. Nobody would imagine what was going to be next. A project that was born full of illusion and energy, has become one of the best Gospel choirs in our place.
Very crowded concerts such as those in “Palau de la Música Catalana”, the “Teatre Grec,” or in “l’Auditori,” our presence in almost all jazz festivals in country, eight Gospel shows: Gospel & Spirituals , The Gospel Machine , From Roots to Heaven , The New Gospel Machine , Bob Marley Tribute , Gospel Now! and Kirk Franklin Tribute, two original musicals ( Placa Reial and Strómboli ), five edited CDs and fourteen editions of Rajadell Gospel Campus speak about the successful progress of the choir.
After a passionate trip to Uganda the summer of 2015, Ramon Escalé could discover one of the most important influences of Gospel: its African origin. Listening and recording all the music found in his path and recording it, he could make a compilation of melodies and rhythms that, after the mix with American culture, had become into a work singing, religious music, blues, ragtime and all kinds that leaded to Gospel. Back home and together with the choir, they selected the ones that were more representative ones and fitted in better with their style, so they started to work in this new show. Music, choreography, and movement mixed all together to make a vibrant and spectacular concert where the rhythm is omnipresent and starred by the Africans sounds.
The melding of the Esclat Gospel Singers with the arrangements and the rhythm forcefulness of Ramon Escalé Trio gives global meaning to the sound of “From the Heart of Africa”. Mixing the African sounds with the posterior evolution to the USA and Caribbean ones makes of this fusion a very daring newness and practically unprecedented event.
